Spirit Ball Protects

Spirit BallIn Europe in earlier centuries people wanted protection from the Evil Eye. This was done with an image of a staring eye and a small mirror; the hostile eye would see its own reflection and be defeated by evil rebounding onto itself.

However as a single mirror could only be pointed in one direction, this was not a foolproof solution, as the evil eye could enter from another direction rendering the image and mirror useless.

The solution to this problem was the witches’ ball, a coloured glass sphere that could reflect the eye from any and all directions. (more…)

Ancient Calendar Predicts World Ends in 2012

Mayan Calendar5125 years ago the Mayans predicted that on the 21st December 2012 the apocalypse will come to pass and the word will end!

Over time there have been many predictions that Armageddon would occur; but the 2012 phenomenon is being treated differently largely because of the connection to the Mayans who are famously wise and an advanced civilisation. The Mayans were noted for their extraordinary astronomical observations and mathematical powers; they were at their height between 250 and 900 AD; but in the present day in the Mexican state of Yucatan ad Guatemala the evidence boils to one fact – their 5125 year calendar runs out on 21st December 2012 – with many believing that if they did not take it any further, then they must have had a reason! Through The Eyes of a Child

Through The Eyes of a ChildThe day is approaching and some people have been getting ready as early as October. Decoration’s hit the shops and Christmas music is being played everywhere you go.

People are being bombarded by television adverts with things to buy, and children are doing their Christmas lists. Parents not wanting to disappoint their loved ones…they just want to see their children’s faces light up with delight.

There is such a buzz at Christmas time and the air is full of Christmas cheer and good will to all. It’s like the earth has been taken over by false happiness, for example people who never really speak from one year until the next wish you a ‘Happy Christmas’, (more…)

What Planet is Ruling You?

PlanetsEach sign has a ruling planet – Mercury and Venus both rule two signs. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were discovered in 1781, 1846 and 1930 respectively – until then Mars ruled Scorpio and Aries and Jupiter ruled Pisces and Sagittarius. Saturn ruled Aquarius & Capricorn and the Sun and the Moon have only ever ruled one sign each. Once Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were accepted into the pantheon, rulerships were reassigned and it is possible that new planets in the future will allow Mercury and Venus to rule only one sign each also. The association between ruling planets and peoples characteristics has been accepted for over 2000 years.

Here is what your ruling planet and sign says about your personality: (more…)

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving MealThanksgiving is celebrated in America and is the fourth Thursday in November. In 1863 Abraham Lincoln described Thanksgiving as “fruitful fields and healthful skies”

Americans have a long weekend and plan a feast with family and friends and count their blessing and give gratitude for ‘harmony, liberty and industry across the nation’.

Thanksgiving began when the Plymouth Colony invited the local Wampanoag

Tribe to celebrate harvest with them in 1621. Early pilgrims were helped by the Native Americans to hunt and plant crops in unfamiliar landscapes. (more…)

Halloween Traditions & Superstitions

WitchHalloween may be all about fancy dress and trick or treating now, but you may not realise where some of the traditions and beliefs come from:

Black Cats

Black cats bad reputation dates back to the dark ages, when they were considered to be the ‘familiar’ of witches. Witch hunts were common in this time and elderly solitary women with pet black cats were often accused of witchcraft, the cat symbolised a demonic creature given to them by the devil. Medieval myths say that Satan turned himself into a cat when he socialised with witches. Over time however the myth has turned around and in the UK it is considered good luck if a black cat crosses your path. (more…)

Exploring White Witches

White WithIn the spirit of Halloween I thought I would explore what we mean by White Witch: White witch or good witch really distinguish practitioners of folk magic for benevolent purposes termed white magic as opposed to those practising malevolent witchcraft.

Two of the most famous white witches in modern literature are Glinda – the Good Witch in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, and Queen Jadis from The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis. (more…)

Mindful Walking

Woman WalkingWe all know that walking is good for us – it is free, you can do it anywhere and it burns calories and strengthens our muscles whilst building denser bones and carries a low risk of energy.

But now there is a way to make walking better for not just your body but your mind and soul also. Straight out of the United States is walking meditation or “Mindful Walking”. The practise originated from Buddhist Monks, but is now taking off in fitness centres around the world.

The exercise combines meditation techniques – breathing, concentration and relaxation with rhythmic walking. The net results are a reduction in blood pressure and heart rate and improvements in sleep patterns, stress levels, mood and general well being. (more…)
