But in fact the majority of callers are still calling about relationship problems. So then you might ask why have I chosen to talk about relationships after all Taylor Swift is only the tender age of 22 what can she possibly know about love – well actually quite a lot!

For those of you that don’t know Taylor Swift, she is an American country pop singer, songwriter and actress. The Intention Experiment

There is a great deal of talk today about the power of the mind, how we can influence things around us and so on. There are also a lot of people whoThe Intention Experiment Book do not believe and many who find it hard to believe enough to actually put things into action. We know that if we think positive, various situations will improve, but doing this sometimes seems impossible. The aim of the Intention Experiment is to prove scientifically that many people thinking positively, or praying about the same issue can indeed have a positive effect. New Beginnings

Traditionally the New Year is a time to cleanse and renew; put our mistakes behind us and make a fresh start. Many cement this with makingA Message of Hope from the Angels, Lorna Byrne resolutions; promising ourselves that we will banish bad behaviours like smoking, unhealthy eating, lack of commitment to exercise and so on. The problem with these rituals is that often we break them soon after making them leaving us in a cycle of feeling weak willed and depressed that we could not make the changes we wanted.

So this year instead of making lots of promises of changes; why not do something different? For instance you could read the new book by Lorna Byrne – A Message of Hope from the Angels. Celebrity Chefs

Have you ever been asked that question “if you were having a dinner party and could choose whoever you wanted to attend (dead or alive) who would you invite?” Well my husband and I have been playing a slight variation – if you were guaranteed any celebrity chef you asked would cook your Christmas dinner – who would you choose?

I have to confess to being really torn between Lorraine Pascale and The Barefoot Contessa – Ina Garten.Lorrainefor making decadent cheesecakes, fresh bread and lots of yummy things with puff pastry. But the thing is I’m just not convinced she eats any of her delectable treats (she used to be a model you know!) So to Ina – not only does she have lovely tasty recipes, but she comes across as lots of fun, with her catch phrases – all together now “how easy is that”. But obviously it would be a requirement that her husband Geoffrey comes along…If this is not making any sense to you tune into the Food Network on Freeview channel 48. My husband didn’t object to my Ina choice, but equally wouldn’t have been remotely opposed to Nigella turning up!

To help you make up your mind here’s a selection of best selling cook books both old and new:

My Week with Marilyn

Marilyn Monroe Life Magazine

In 1956 Marilyn Monroe set foot on English soil for the first time; she was on honeymoon with her husband Arthur Miller (a celebrated playwright) and at the same time she was to shoot ‘The Prince and the Showgirl’ starring opposite Laurence Olivier.

That same summer, Colin Clark; newly graduated from Oxford obtained a job as a lowly production hand on the same movie set. Forty years later he recounted his experience in a memoir entitled ‘The Prince the Showgirl and Me’. But one week of the account was missing; this film ‘My Week With Marilyn’ recounts that missing week in glorious detail.

The film was never going to be easy to make; with such an icon like Marilyn Monroe everyone has a vision of her and probably an opinion of what she was like. The difficulties between Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe on the set of The Prince and the Showgirl are well documented. He disliked her tardiness, her drug and alcohol fuelled erratic behaviour and her devotion to method acting. The backdrop of difficulties and disappointments provides a better understanding as to why Marilyn and Colin form such an unlikely relationship.

The film gives you a real glimpse into old Hollywood and what celebrity meant at that time. You see Marilyn as a sweet endearing and vulnerable Michelle Williams person but at the same time someone who was deeply insecure and frantic much of the time. Of course none of this could be portrayed if it wasn’t for Michelle Williams who plays the leading role. Michelle says of the role “To be honest, the part kind of landed in my lap, although I knew immediately that I was going to challenge myself to do it.”

Depending on your age you may know Michelle as the angst ridden teenager she played in the late nineties in Dawson’s Creek. Or perhaps as the Oscar nominated actress in Brokeback Mountain. Michelle tends to be an actress that flies under the radar, but she has made some clever choices – from hard hitting thrillers like Shutter Island to Independent films like Wendy and Lucy. Simon Curtis, the Cranford director who is making his feature film debut with My Week with Marilyn, believed that Williams was “perfect in so many ways. She is one of those actresses that I always want. From Dawson’s Creek onwards, I think she is absolutely marvellous.”

Perhaps on some level Michelle related to the vulnerability felt by Marilyn; being no stranger to tragedy herself or the pressure that being a movie star can bring. Michelle is mother to her six year old daughter Matilda whose father Heath Ledger (herBrokebackMountainco-star) died following an accidental overdose in January 2008. Michelle was subsequently hounded by the paparazzi even though they had split up the previous year. (more…)

Queen B.

Beyonce
Women’s rights have come a long way…But for many of us that now means lots of choices and opportunities and a question of ‘Can I have it All?’. Well, if you were using Beyonce as a benchmark then the answer is a resounding YES! She has a glittering music career (both in a group and solo); has close family relationships, has perfume lines, a movie career and a fashion business and is married to a very famous Rap Star and producer Jay-Z. As Beyonce led up to her 30th Birthday (4th Sep), many of us were thinking there’s only one thing left – children. As many of you will no doubt know on the night of the MTV Video Music Awards she announced that they were pregnant.

So just where did it all go right, and can we follow in her footsteps and have a family life, children and a career. Without the infrastructure to support and money that no doubt goes with their lives? (more…)

Déjà Vu – Seen it all Before

Deja Vu BookWe’ve all witnessed that situation where you’ve had that uncanny feeling of having experienced something before and being able to recall the exact event.

Déjà vu comes from the French term for ‘already seen´ and was given its name by the French psychic researcher Émile Boirac in his book ‘L’Aevnir des sciences psychiques’ (The Future of Psychic Sciences).

Sigmund Freud described the Déjà vu experience as the ‘previous experience most frequently attributed to a dream, although in some cases there is a firm sense that the experience has genuinely happened in the past’. Or in other words, the experience is accompanied by a compelling sense of familiarity.

Charles Dickens wrote in the famous David Copperfield ‘in a remote time of our having been surrounded, dim ages ago, by the same faces, objects and circumstances of our knowledge perfectly what will be said next, as if we suddenly remember it’! (more…)
