If you are fairly new to Tarot readings, you may not realise that there are many different ways that the cards can be dealt (spreads) in order to determine the style of reading. For example:
The Horseshoe
This spread is made up of seven cards, laid out from left (1) to right (7) in the shape of a horseshoe.
Card 1 looks at what in the past is influencing you.
Card 2 deals with the present.
Card 3 looks at whether there are any hidden influences.
Card 4 identifies blocks that are stopping you moving forward.
Card 5 looks at external influences.
Card 6 reviews the best way forward.
Card 7 identifies the likely outcome.
The Celtic Cross
This spread is widely used; it is excellent at providing an overview of a situation. This spread is made up of a Circle/Cross of six cards on the left (feminine energy), it is made up of two crosses (the central cross is 2 cards that are laid across each other), which signify the heart of the matter and four cards on the right called the Staff (male energy).
Card 1 looks at your position as it currently stands.
Card 2 identifies what difficulties you are facing.
Card 3 pinpoints what is worrying you.
Card 4 looks at what aspects of your life are closing.
Card 5 covers your past (most recent).
Card 6 looks at your future (immediate).
Card 7 deals with your near future.
Card 8 recognises those around you that are ‘influencers’.
Card 9 addresses your fears and hopes.
Card 10 deals with the outcome.
